Looking forward to seeing everyone again on future walks!The Branford SGT team has had a successful December, holding not one but two walks. Some of the people who built Branford’s early trail network catalyzed SGT’s efforts, with the result that portions of current and future Shoreline Greenway Trail follow the path laid out for these other trails—but at a width and with a surface conducive to safe biking, walking and other activities. Currently 4 short sections have been constructed in the towns of East Haven, Branford and Madison. Help the planet.Although February 1st was a misty morning, forty friendly, enthusiastic people, plus a few leased dogs, enjoyed the trail walk in East Haven. The Shoreline Greenway Trail is a proposed 25-mile trail along the Connecticut Shoreline that will extend from Lighthouse Point on the New Haven Harbor through East Haven, Branford and Guilford to Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison. Thank you to the new faces who joined us. This historic town has a SGT is supporting the Town of Guilford’s effort to enhance bike and pedestrian safety, access and infrastructure, while exploring ways of connecting key destinations within Guilford as well as in adjacent towns. Having raised about $75,000 and with the status of state grants in flux, the Guilford Land Conservation Trust (GLCT) is still hoping to solicit more donations after acquiring its second-largest single piece of land this past spring—121 acres of rivers; mountainous, rocky overlooks; and important habitats for local animals in North Guilford.
