In August of 1969 hurricane Agnes dumped over twenty inches of rain in the Valley; as the Maury River rose the raging waters destroyed the railway bridge at East Lexington just downstream of the dam and ripped up most of the tracks. But you'll find that they're docile and disinterested, and that they'll generally walk off the trail as you get closer to them.

Then a little farther down you can access the trail at Woods Creek Grocery on Lime Kiln Road. I was thrilled at how lovely it was.
