CPUC : The California Public Utilities Commission regulates privately owned electric, natural gas, telecommunications, water, railroad, rail transit, and passenger transportation companies, in addition to authorizing video franchises. In Decision 14-02-015, the CPUC adopted a Fire Incident Data Collection Plan that requires certain investor-owned electric utilities to collect and annually report certain information that would be useful in identifying operational and/or environmental trends relevant to fire-related events. In the report, safety officials flagged 12 violations, including failing to replace or reinforce a C-hook on the tower where the Camp Fire sparked.The report also states that PG&E failed to conduct climbing inspections on that tower triggered by specific conditions between 2001 and the start of the fire.
We implemented these inspections following the 2017 and 2018 wildfires as additional precautionary measures intended to further reduce wildfire risks and keeping our customers and communities safe, given the growing wildfire threat across the state.
