I loved this fantastic slow burn romance about a married “couple” who may not have been right for each other years ago, but they are discovering that they might just be perfect for each other now. The story follows Charlotte and Colin, two people who married years ago so that Colin could get a green card. I started reading it and didn't stop until I finished it. A romantic comedy from New York Times bestselling author Lauren Layne. They are an automatic buy for me. But all in all it was super funny and I read the whole book in a single day, so preI'm going to go with 2.5 neutral stars because there was stuff I liked a lot (the fake marriage, Charlotte herself, because she was brilliant and super funny, the relationship with her parents, the banter) and stuff I didn't like much (evil girl nemesis, underdeveloped secondary characters, I didn't really get the appeal of Colin, that "OMG I just turned 30 therefore I must want a husband and kids" stupid trope). There was a very long wait for this stubborn couple to finally get together but very much worth the wait.
There’s just something about Lauren Layne’s writing that I love - whether it’s one of her new books or one of her older ones, she has a truly unique voice and it’s easy to get engrossed in the worlds she creates.
But as they meet up again years later, they’ve both changed and matured into very different people.
This has by far, been one of my favourite reads of 2019.
