A really great romantic independent with strong writing, great directing and really good performances. Shelves: f-f-bsb-romance, steamy-romance. I kind of suffered through it. This is better than Dexter season 8...but then again that is not saying much. It wasn't about the bridal couple, but those who reconnected because of the event. Shockingly bad, and nothing actually happens, though several times they seem to think something has happened. I like Riley as an author. Well...I watched this one night and it wasn't that bad. Hello. Poorly written opportunities to talk, not great acting, & very little chemistry. And how we build them up in our minds, not the realty of who they are, or who you think they could have been if they chose you. I like when characters reunite and all their past comes back. !It's really weird to think that this film came out in 2009, when the premise and overall quality of the film suggests this is a 2003 or 2005 joint at best.I guess my primary issue with the movie, besides the weird dips in audio that betray the environment, Amazon Prime censoring profanity in their subtitles, and the jukebox music, is the primary 'romance'.
The plot is so predictable my pet lizard wasn't even surprised by the conflicts or plot turns. I like to watch movies while I'm on the treadmill (helps time go faster) and I can usually get through half a movie while on my 60 min walk. It has a good message about relationships, too, which is refreshing in the days where every movie is about a broken home or a divorce. A creepy man who looks like a rapist comes home after a 3-year journey (to Europe, apparently to find himself), and is inexplicably horrified to find out that his ex-girlfriend from 3 years ago is married. In keeping with the modern trend of trying to intertwine a multiplicity of different stories in order to avoid having to come up with a real plot is brought to new heights of dullness in this insipid production. In the end everyone seems to find what they are looking for an come closer as a result. But this film is nothing if not determined to subvert tried and true romantic tropes of films of this nature, but…Meh. Pride
